The 1849 "Sextet" with its virtuosic violin parts and plentiful use of
Polish folk motif. Elsner's "Septet", from 1830, is quite unusual in
that the piano is not used as a solo instrument - it often seems to be
merely another part of the bass line although it is liberated somewhat
in the slow movement (unusual particularly since Elsner is often
credited with being Chopin's teacher!).
